Some insights into one of today’s English classes: Statistics (Year 10) 27th August 2024
Today’s topic: A Happiness Survey - Evaluation
(compare Green Line 6 G9 - workbook p. 2)
Goals:
To start with, the students had to answer the questions of the survey on happiness by themselves and were asked to interview their parents (by filling out the online surveys produced on Itslearning). There was one survey for each age group (with the same questions) as we wanted to compare the answers from the students to the parents’ generation.
In the next step, the students had to gather/collect the data and describe the given results. What’s more, they analysed and evaluated the findings.
Last but not least, the students were asked to visualise the statistics.
Language support: e.g. Skills Page on pp. 88/89, „useful phrases“ on p. 2 (wb), ChatGPT and others
Evaluating the data from the online survey (held anonymously) with the help of the IPads. Looks very professional… = )
Work in progress…
Busy with doing the statistics with the help of calculators, IPads and their brains ; )
First visualisations (using pie charts etc.)
As the survey and the participants were “real“, it is supposed to be a good example of authentic task-based learning. Everyone seemed to be quite busy and enjoy it.
